Linguistic Discovery's website is designed to take advantage of
Unicode and CSS technologies. The latest versions of all major web
browsers provide sufficient support for these technologies to
accurately reproduce the symbols and layout of the journal; however,
you will need to ensure that you have a phonetic Unicode font
installed in order for all the phonetic symbols to display properly.
Linguistic Discovery is produced using the
Doulos SIL font which is
freely available with installation instructions from
SIL. Please
install this font before viewing the HTML editions of articles.
Minor display descrepancies exist between different browsers and
platforms. If optimally formatted display is of the essence, we
suggest accessing the articles via our PDF files, which guarantee
identical display regardless of a user's choice of computer or browser
software.
To learn more about the challenges of publishing text containing
phonetic fonts as HTML, consult our
