will take place on June 26-28, 2003 at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) in Santo Domingo,
Dominican Republic. The event is being co-organized by Program on Latin America and the Caribbean at
the Social Science Research
Council (SSRC)'s Program on Latin America and the Caribbean and FLACSO-Dominican Republic with support from the Rockefeller Foundation. This conference is part
of a project on Translocal Flows in the Americas. The project seeks to
facilitate dialogue and coordinate research among junior scholars working on
issues of migration and urban spaces in the humanities and the social
sciences in North America and Latin America, and in the fields of Latin
American Studies and Chicano/Puerto Rican/Latino Studies in the United States.

The Latina/o Focus Group of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education
is calling for submissions of abstracts for proposed papers, panels, roundtable
discussions, and lecture-demonstrations for presentation at the Association's national
conference to be held from July 31 - August 3, 2003 in New York City.
This year's national ATHE conference will mark the premiere of the Latina/o Focus Group -
a significant direction of growth for ATHE - ratified in August 2002. We encourage scholars,
graduate students, artists, and community groups endeavoring in issues pertinent to U.S. Latina/o
and/or Latin American issues of performance, performance studies, and theater studies to help us make
our first official presentation at ATHE an exceptional event.
